With his new contract, the 28-year-old midfielder will remain at Craven Cottage until 2024, with the possibility of an additional year’s extension.
Cairney left Blackburn to join Fulham, a Premier League team that was demoted, in 2015. In 161 games, he has scored 28 goals for the team.
“I have found the club to be incredible,” exclaimed Scotland international Cairney.
“It feels great to get my contract extended one more. I hope to continue here for a very long time and complete my career.
“It seems like home here. I don’t believe happiness or life off the field can be bought, and I don’t see myself doing anything else.”
When Cairney scored in the Championship play-off final of the previous season, he became the first Fulham player to score at Wembley Stadium.
The team, now ranked 19th in the Premier League, will play their penultimate game of the season on Saturday at Wolves (15:00 BST).

Although Cairney’s ability to finish games and support comebacks from the bench has never been in doubt, it has made people speculate about what kind of influence he would have right away. The 32-year-old missed 10 months of football due to a chronic knee ailment before making a comeback in October 2021.
After serving as mainstays under Marco Silva in the Championship the previous season, players like Tim Ream, Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Kenny Tete have all established themselves in the Premier League this year. Cairney, though, has had to wait his turn.
Now that Andreas Pereira is sidelined due to an ankle injury, Cairney has the opportunity to demonstrate his abilities.
