This weekend marks the beginning of WrestleMania’s journey.
With the annual Royal Rumble coming up this weekend, it’s one of WWE’s finest weeks of the year.
In the two separate Royal Rumble matches, thirty men and thirty women will face off in a quest to outlast thirty rivals and secure a spot in the WrestleMania 40 main event.
In preparation for the big Florida event on Saturday night, here are the top three teams for each match.
Men’s Cody Rhodes
Since Stone Cold Steve Austin in the late 90s, no Superstar has won straight Royal Rumbles; yet, in order for Rhodes to “finish his story,” he must find a way to the WrestleMania main event. Making history by winning two straight rumble rounds would ensure that he would have another chance to face the all-powerful Roman Reigns in April, on the biggest stage of them all.
CM Punk
Punk’s surprise return to the WWE in November surprised everyone, and he now plans to lead WrestleMania at last—something he was unable to achieve in his previous stay with the organization. Since Punk’s injury is not as bad as first thought, Punk vs. Seth Rollins is likely to headline night one in Philadelphia this spring if he does manage to win his first Rumble bout.
The Stone
The People’s Champion returned on New Year’s Day and made suggestions about a much-anticipated match with Roman Reigns in Philadelphia, so it appears that something unexpected is in preparation for WrestleMania. Throwing in Cody Rhodes further complicates the main event plot, but if we are going to get to Rock vs. Roman, then what better way to do it than with a surprise entry and the winner of the rumble match? That would make Tampa very happy.
Ladies’ Bayley
A Royal Rumble victory is the one thing that Bayley’s WWE resume is lacking, and it appears like 2024 is the ideal year to get it. It seems like a Damager CRTL split of some kind is imminent, and what better way to get there than for the ‘Role Model’ to challenge Iyo Sky for the World Championship at WrestleMania and for the group to turn against Bayley after she wins the Rumble?
Lynch Becky
Becky Lynch vs. Rhea Ripley is the biggest women’s match WWE can book at the moment and is a strong candidate for a WrestleMania slot. The two have already hinted at a possible matchup, and if Becky wins her second Rumble fight, it will undoubtedly be Mami vs. The Man, the main women’s event at WrestleMania.
Jade Cargill
Cargill is the perfect choice if WWE wants to take a wild guess and add some surprise elements to the women’s Rumble event. Even though WWE created a lot of noise when they signed Jade, we haven’t seen her on WWE TV since the beginning of the year. Is it possible that she skipped some programming in the lead-up to her winning the Royal Rumble and winning a title match at WrestleMania?
