Shelton Benjamin recently opened up about his decision to join AEW. After being released by WWE in September 2023, he returned to the independent scene before debuting on AEW Dynamite on October 2, where he reunited with MVP.
During an interview on *Gabby AF*, Benjamin reflected on signing with AEW, saying he carefully considered his options. While IMPACT Wrestling was a strong contender, he ultimately chose AEW because of its massive audience, second only to WWE. Benjamin emphasized that, although he’s not retiring anytime soon, he wants to make the most of his remaining in-ring career by performing in front of the largest possible audience, and AEW offers that.
He was also pleasantly surprised by the number of familiar faces in AEW, both in terms of talent and production, noting that although he doesn’t watch much wrestling, he encountered many colleagues he hadn’t realized were there.
Benjamin is set to face Sammy Guevara on the October 23 episode of AEW Dynamite.
