The terms of Sherrone Moore’s contract with the Michigan Wolverines have been made public.
After a mere 48 hours, Michigan football announced that Sherrone Moore, the offensive coordinator, had been named the 21st head coach in program history, replacing Jim Harbaugh.
Moore is the only head coach in Wolverines history to have a perfect victory percentage. In 2023, he won four games as the interim head coach of the Maize and Blue, defeating Bowling Green, Penn State, Maryland, and Ohio State. However, there are some concerns about his pay because this is his first legitimate head coaching position.
The Detroit News’ Angelique Chengelis reports that Moore is inking a five-year contract starting at $5.5 million, while the amount that Harbaugh was allegedly given was $12.5 million annually.
Naturally, that’s a rather cheap price to pay for a head coach for a prestigious program fresh off a national title. That suggests that the team would try to keep certain important coaches, such as defensive coordinator Jesse Minter and strength and conditioning coach Ben Herbert, by using a large portion of the funds it had planned to spend on Harbaugh. The Wolverines have a sizable sum of money they can spend on things other than hiring a new head coach, though it remains to be seen if they will be able to keep either.
