Sharing the lineup with a lot of bodies can be annoying, especially when they’re alive and fighting for waves. But dead bodies? That’s next-level nightmarish.
Early in the morning, Wednesday, a surfer in San Diego spotted a body floating through the lineup. The surfer reported the sighting to lifeguards, who initiated a search, but called it off after an hour or so. Then, later that day, the body washed ashore with officials retrieving the corpse. And it was believed to be a kayaker who had gone missing on Valentine’s Day in Mission Bay.
“This is a really tragic situation out here in Ocean Beach,” reports local news, “as officials found a dead body on the shore earlier this afternoon. This all started at about 7:30 this morning, when a surfer found that body in the ocean. They searched for about an hour, called off the search, then at about 1:45 this afternoon, someone walking by the shoreline saw the body wash up, and that is when the officials came out to take in the situation and see what they had to do.”
Officials have yet to confirm the identity of the body, but it is suspected to be that of the missing kayaker. As for the lifeguards on the scene, here’s what one had to say about the situation:
“Lifeguards were notified by a passerby that a body was spotted in the water by Little Rock Jetty. We initiated a response. We conducted a search, and located the body. The body was brought to shore.”
