SAD News: Sailors Management Calls for the Sydney to Hobart have CANCELLED all the 2025/2026 /2027 Race after two men were killed and 8 missing by out-of-control in, Calls are growing for the Sydney to Hobart race to be banned after two men on separate yachts were killed by sail booms overnight.
The sailors, who are yet to be identified, were killed as the fleet encountered perilous weather conditions late on Thursday.
A sailor aboard Flying Fish Arctos and another on Bowline were fatally struck by their respective yachts’ booms; the heavy horizontal pole at the bottom of the mainsail which swings at high speed when the yacht changes direction.
Both yachts have since retired from the race.
Some called for the race to be banned or at least postponed when there is treacherous weather.
‘Cancel the race, it endangers people’s lives,’ one person said.
‘They really need to BAN this event,’ said another.
‘If they know the weather is going to be deadly why don’t they postpone the race start by a day or two,’ a third questioned.
