Tomas Rodriguez Hernandez Suspended Two Years for Anti-Doping Rule Violation
UPDATE: Tomas Rodriguez Hernandez has agreed to serve a two year period of ineligibility after doping samples collected at Ironman Texas tested positive for clomiphene. He will now also forfeit prize money, standings, and points from the event.

Tomas Hernandez Rodriguez, who made a name for himself by beating two-time Ironman World Champion Patrick Lange at 2024 Ironman Texas last April, has agreed to serve a two-year “period of ineligibility” after testing positive for a banned substance. Ironman confirmed details of the agreement, shared in a press release today by his legal representation, to Triathlete.
The period of ineligibility retroactively begins June 6, 2024 and will last until June 5, 2026. Additionally, Rodríguez Hernandez’s 2024 Ironman Texas results are disqualified and all medals, points, and prizes are forfeited, making Germany’s Patrick Lange the 2024 Ironman Texas winner.
The Mexican triathlete’s sample, collected during anti-doping control after his win in Texas, returned an adverse analytical finding for clomiphene, a hormone and metabolic modulator banned in competition. Clomiphene is typically used for the treatment of female infertility, but can be used off-label to stimulate endogenous testosterone in men; therefore, it is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), of which Ironman is a signatory.
According to the International Testing Agency (ITA)—which Ironman began working with in 2023—Hernandez Rodriguez requested a test of the B sample after the A sample tested positive; the second test confirmed the result of the A sample. Hernandez Rodriguez challenged the results of both, saying the positive test came as a result of eating contaminated eggs:
