triathlete has died following an event at a country park just outside Nottingham. The man died following a medical episode at Holme Pierrepont Country Park on Saturday afternoon (August 24).
The Tri Society has confirmed the athlete was supported by the Triathlon Relays medical team before he was transferred to the Queen’s Medical Centre. The identity of the athlete has not been released.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the Tri Society said: “We at Tri Society are deeply saddened to report during today’s Triathlon Relays at Holme Pierrepont Country Park the death of one of our athletes. The athlete was supported by the event medical team and transferred to Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham.

“Our thoughts are with the athlete’s family friends and teammates at this difficult time.” Nottinghamshire Police added that the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
A spokesperson for the force said: “We were made aware that a triathlon competitor had a medical episode at Holme Pierrepont on Saturday afternoon (24 August). Sadly the man later died and our thoughts remain with his family and friends at this difficult time.
“His next of kin have been informed. His death is not being treated as suspicious at this time and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
