Ange Postecoglou really has limited players to work with at present when it comes to selecting his Tottenham squad for Premier League games. Spurs have endured some terrible luck on the injury front of late, with Rodrigo Bentancur the latest to join the big numbers in the treatment room after sustaining ankle ligament damage in the defeat to Aston Villa.
Only just making his comeback from injury last month, the classy midfielder faces a two-and-a-half month spell on the sidelines. The injury situation, coupled with some players missing out on games through suspension recently, has left Postecoglou and Spurs in a rather unfortunate position at present where they can name an extremely strong XI consisting entirely of absent players,
Having lost their last three games and with their bad fortune in terms of injuries showing no sign of changing for the better, Postecoglou will have his fingers crossed that Tottenham will soon have luck on their side once again. Set to be without some key players between now and the turn of the year, the last thing he needs right now is for other players to find themselves on the sidelines.
As we are not that far away from approaching the 19th Premier League game of the season, we are very close to moving past the cut-off point for receiving a ban for five yellow cards. Premier League rules stipulate that “any player earning five bookings from his side’s first 19 Premier League matches will have to serve a one-match ban in the same competition”.
