Tottenham Hotspur has named Dejan Kuszewski as their new captain following the departure of former captain Hugo Lloris, who is leaving after 11 years with the club. Harry Kane, who captained England, recently transferred to Bayern Munich.
The decision, made by the club and new head coach Ange Postecoglou, recognizes Son’s extensive captaincy experience with South Korea, where he has earned 111 caps.
In addition, summer signing James Maddison and defender Cristian Romero have been appointed as vice-captains. The trio are expected to bring a renewed spirit and help the club achieve progress and success.
While the team acknowledges the significant impact of Kane’s departure, there is optimism that distributing leadership responsibilities more broadly will improve the overall team spirit.
During the club’s pre-season tour, Postecoglou praised Son’s leadership qualities: “I’m looking forward to working with him. He’s another one that I think shows real leadership qualities. He’s pretty much a conduit for the whole squad. He mixes in all groups and has a certain standing in the game.”
