Good News: Five things we learned from Tottenham documentary about their remarkable women’s tea……

On Sunday, Tottenham Hotspur have the chance to reach their first Women’s FA Cup final and end the club’s 33-year semi-final curse in the competition.Spurs has a proud history in the men’s FA Cup, first winning the oldest ongoing knockout tournament in the world back in 1901. When they won the competition in 1991, it was a record eighth triumph, more than any other club at the time. However since then, the men’s team has reached another eight FA Cup semi-finals and lost all of them. Their place in the FA Cup record books has been taken by their bitter North London rivals Arsenal, who have won nine FA Cups in the 33 years since, defeating Spurs in two semi-finals. Tottenham Hotspur has not won any trophy since 2008.With the men’s team out of the running for all this season’s domestic trophies, it could be the women’s team who end the club’s 16-year wait for a major trophy. With last year’s FA Cup finalists, Manchester United and Chelsea facing off in the first semi-final on Saturday, Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City will play on Sunday for the opportunity to reach their first Women’s FA Cup final. The winners of that match will become the 32nd team to reach the final of the competition first played in 1971. Since 2014, every domestic women’s trophy has been won by one of three sides – Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester City. No club outside those three have triumphed in the Women’s FA Cup since Birmingham City in 2012.

Unlike the men’s FA Cup semi-finals which are played on neutral grounds, Spurs will enjoy home advantage in Sunday’s game against Leicester City. Indeed they have been drawn at home in all four rounds of the competition.Central to their improvement this season have been the performances 21-year-old Grace Clinton who has scored five goals for the club on loan from Manchester United and broken into the senior England team, starting for the Lionesses last Friday at Wembley against Sweden. However, should Spurs face Manchester United in the FA Cup final, Clinton will be ineligible to play against her parent club.
