NBA trade rumors: Bruce Brown Jr. of the Raptors and the Utah Jazz have “discussed a framework” for the deal.

There’s another squad that might be a serious contender for Brown. League sources claim that the Jazz and the Raptors have explored a deal that would send Brown to Utah in exchange for Kelly Olynyk and Ochai Agbaji. Although it is unclear what draft capital would be discussed, sources said Toronto has consistently communicated to other clubs that it is seeking a first-round selection for Brown.

This is something fresh that runs against some of the most recent rumors that the Jazz aren’t interested in adding players. Fischer restates the Raptors’ stated desire to get a first-round selection in exchange for Brown. Would the Jazz agree to carry that out?

Kelly Olynyk and Ochai Agbaji are mentioned by Fischer as the players in the deal; however, would Utah be prepared to add a first to make it happen? Given that Brown would take over for Simone Fontecchio after the latter was moved to the Detroit Pistons, the move makes some sense. Does this align with the Jazz’s long-term goals? Tim MacMahon has informed us that the Jazz will consider the long term in all of their decisions. Do they think Bruce Brown is a long-term asset that merits a first-round selection?

The Jazz’s decision to include Ochai Agbaji in this possible transaction is unexpected, but only a little. Agbaji hasn’t done much on the court to draw attention this year and has truly failed to shoot. Despite his extreme athleticism and seeming diligence, Agbaji’s image doesn’t seem to fit Agbaji in real life. The initial assumption when Fontecchio moved to Detroit was that Agbaji would earn those minutes, but it’s possible that the Jazz had alternative plans that involved Bruce Brown Jr.

The Jazz may be using smoke and mirrors in an attempt to raise additional funds for the veterans they are seeking to transfer.
