Toronto FC fires head coach Bob Bradley, ex-player Terry Dunfield takes over.

Bob Bradley’s tenure at Toronto FC was up. Additionally, President Bill Manning lost patience.

The Major League Soccer team sacked its head coach and sports director on Monday, hoping to stop a downward trend in the standings that Bradley has not been able to stop.

Former TFC player and Canadian international Terry Dunfield has been appointed temporary head coach. The 41-year-old, who previously played for Manchester City and the Vancouver Whitecaps, has been leading the Toronto academy’s under-17 squad as head coach.

“Bob has been an absolute professional while working with Toronto FC, and we appreciate all of his hard work and enthusiasm. In a five-paragraph statement, Manning added, “We are all disappointed that we were not able to achieve the results we were hoping for.”

In addition, Mike Sorber, Bradley’s right-hand man and the club’s technical director and assistant coach, was fired.

Jason Hernandez, the deputy general manager, was elevated to general manager on Tuesday.

Toronto is stuck in 14th place in the MLS’s Eastern Conference with a record of 3-7-10 after losing 2-1 to the New England Revolution on Saturday. In its last 17 games across all competitions, it has only triumphed twice (2-7-8).

On Saturday, TFC, which is now seven points outside of the playoff picture, will host Real Salt Lake.

In November 2021, Bradley—whose son is TFC captain Michael Bradley—took over as head coach of Toronto. With the club, he had a 14–26–19 record.

Following the resignation of Greg Vanney in December 2020, who guided the team to the 2017 MLS Cup, Bob Bradley has been the franchise’s coach three times. For the 2020 campaign, Javier Perez and Chris Armas served as coaches.

Bradley, the three-time MLS coach of the year, has long been a target. A lack of depth and injuries have hindered the team.

For the weekend’s loss to New England, Toronto was without eleven players due to injury and international commitments.
