Tennis fans are devastated by Rafa Nadal’s unexpected decision to pull out of the upcoming Miami Masters.
The Australian Open champion defeated Sebastian Korda in the third set of play to start his Indian Wells campaign on Saturday.
“EXTRAORDINARY”: Following Warne’s passing, the Anna Kournikova story surfaced.
“SHOCKING”: A Ukrainian tennis player criticizes her Russian colleagues.
As he resumed his 16-match winning streak, the World No. 4 defeated Korda 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (7/3), continuing what has been the best start to any season in his illustrious career.
But when Rafael Nadal said earlier in the day that he would not be participating in Miami, the second half of the “Sunshine Double,” following Indian Wells, fans were taken aback.
Although Nadal has advanced to the event’s five finals, he hasn’t competed in Miami since 2017.
Due to his withdrawal earlier this month, none of the winners of the first grand slam event of this year will be present at the tournament. Ash Barty, the winner of the women’s division, is also not attending.
Rafael will undoubtedly be missed. “We hope to see him back in Miami next year. He has a lot of fans here in South Florida,” Miami tournament director James Blake stated.
For the 35-year-old Rafael Nadal, skipping the tournament on March 21 makes sense since it will provide him more time to get ready for the European clay-court season.
Before his Indian Wells campaign began, Rafael Nadal stated that he was still concerned about the foot ailment that had him using crutches six months earlier.
“The foot is not going to be 100 percent recovered, never,” he stated. “I am in excruciating agony in my foot.
“I can be content with things for the time being. But eventually, I’ll have to take a little extra medication and possibly take a brief break.
“I need to strike the correct mix between competing and knowing when to give up and do the things I need to in order to attempt to play for as long as possible.
“I really couldn’t ask for much more if I can manage my calendar well and adhere to it.
