Jon Cooper Tampa Bay Lightning Head Coach Just Secured Contract of $100million with….

The Arizona Coyotes sent a 2027 fifth-round pick to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for defenseman Matt Dumba and a 2025 seventh-round pick, the teams confirmed on Friday. On Dumba, there is no salary retention.

On The Athletic’s most recent trade board, Dumba ranked second.

Dumba joined the Minnesota Wild as the seventh choice in the 2012 NHL Draft, where he spent the first ten seasons of his career. Dumba signed a one-year, $3.9 million contract with the Arizona Coyotes in free agency last summer after signing trade rumors for several years and the Wild facing a budgetary constraint.

Throughout his 656 regular-season appearances, Dumba has 163 assists and 83 goals.

At the deadline, Tampa Bay was primarily looking for two things: further depth up top in terms of scoring (see Anthony Duclair) and assistance on the blue line. The Lightning had the cap space and needed it because Mikhail Sergachev was out for the whole of the regular season due to injury.

Dumba wasn’t the initial pick; Joel Edmundson and Noah Hanifin were two others
