Coach Mike Tomlin of the Steelers leaves the platform after being questioned about his contract.
Following the team’s playoff defeat to the Buffalo Bills on Monday, Mike Tomlin, the coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, left the platform when questioned about his contract status.
After Pittsburgh’s 31-17 loss to the Bills at Highmark Stadium, a reporter questioned Mike Tomlin, saying, “Mike, you have a year remaining on your contract.” Tomlin, whose current contract expires in a year, left before the issue could be answered. It was the final query posed by reporters.
Pro Football Talk revealed over the weekend that Tomlin will make a decision regarding his coaching status following the season.
Tomlin and Pittsburgh agreed to a contract extension in 2021, which is valid through the 2024 campaign. Following the firings of Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick this offseason, he is presently the NFL head coach with the longest tenure.
Tomlin joined the Steelers 17 years ago and has never experienced a losing season. Under Tomlin, the club has won the Super Bowl once and advanced to the playoffs eleven times. Since the 2016 campaign, the Steelers have failed to win a postseason game.
Following Monday’s defeat, defensive captain Cam Heyward of the Steelers stated, “Every player in there wouldn’t be anything without Mike T,” via the Associated Press. Without Mike T., our team could not even hope to qualify for the playoffs. Playing for another coach would not be my preference.”
Tomlin has an overall record of 181-110-2 in his role as the team’s coach. In the playoffs, he is 8–10. Tomlin is said to have informed the players on Tuesday that he intends to coach the black and gold in 2024.
