As competition came to an end on the last day, England continued to add to their already impressive medal total, capping the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

As the 11-day tournament came to a triumphant conclusion, the PA press agency offers its reflections on Monday’s events here.

Declan James and James Willstrop defeated fellow countrymen Daryl Selby and Adrian Waller 11-3, 7-11, 11-9 to win the gold in men’s squash doubles. James was particularly happy with his victory because he was worried he wouldn’t make it to the Games after tearing a three-inch muscle in his quad two months prior.

In the mixed synchronized 10m platform, Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix and Noah Williams won their second gold medal of the Games. The 17-year-old had already taken home gold in the synchronized event and silver on the 10m platform. With a score of 333.06, the pair won, while Kyle Kothari and Lois Toulson, teammates from England, took home silver.

After a thrilling 6-3 victory over South Africa, England’s men’s team secured bronze in the hockey competition. After losing to Australia in the semifinals, South Africa took a two-goal lead in the second quarter, but goals from Rhys Smith, Liam Ansell, Zach Wallace, and Sam Ward, together with a double from Phil Roper, gave them some reward.

Luke Littler secures the Premier League with a nine-darter.

The 17-year-old sensation’s fairytale odyssey has a new chapter now that he secured the title in his rookie season with a nine-darter.

Luke Humphries was defeated 11-7 by Littler in a rematch of the World Championship final, and Littler got his revenge.

Littler stated, “To all the doubters, you’re not doubting me any more!” after hoisting the prize.
