Details on the cause of Vic Fangio’s split with Miami Dolphins serve as a warning for Philadelphia Eagles
Head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles Nick Sirianni was able to keep his job this summer by adding two new coordinators. But it seems that’s also the reason that new Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio became available, following a season marred by internal strife.
Fangio served as a consultant for the Eagles coaching staff in 2022 following his dismissal as head coach of the Denver Broncos in 2021. He signed a two-week contract to help Philadelphia get ready for Super Bowl LVII after helping the team during training camp.
Fangio accepted to take a position as defensive coordinator with the Miami Dolphins after it was made clear to the Eagles that defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon would not be leaving for the 2023 campaign. Miami had one of the finest defenses in the second part of the regular season, despite a plethora of injuries on that side of the ball. Then, Fangio and the Dolphins amicably parted ways a few days after Miami was ousted from the NFL playoffs. He inked a deal almost shortly thereafter to take Matt Patricia’s and Sean Desai’s place as the Eagles defensive coordinator. The respected defensive coach reportedly departed Miami to be nearer to his family and because Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel wanted to collaborate with someone more. More information has now surfaced that explains just why the Dolphins were prepared for a transition just as much as Fangio was.
