Lynden Gooch has hit back at accusations suggesting he did not try against Sunderland last weekend.
has defended himself in response to remarks made by certain Stoke City supporters—but not all of them—after The Potters’ weekend defeat at Sunderland.
After a protracted stay with the Black Cats that saw him play in the Premier League, Championship, and League One, the American made his debut at right-back for Stoke City in his first game at the Stadium of Light. He had previously played for Sunderland.
Though the full-back had a difficult time against former teammate Jack Clarke, some Stoke fans accused Gooch of not trying against his former club after Sunderland’s 3-1 victory against Stoke City on Wearside.
Gooch posted the following on social media: “I feel compelled to speak up after seeing a few of them. Since I joined, I have given everything I have and always will in a Stoke City shirt. On Saturday, we were defeated by a superior team that was more merciless than we were in both categories.”
At the end of the half, Mason Burstow headed the ball back towards goal and scored his first goal as a Sunderland player, giving the Black Cats the lead.
Soon after the half, Abdoullah Ba gave the home team a second goal, and in the 70th, Pierre Ekwah made it 3-0.When Jenson Seels turned the ball into his own net, Stoke did manage to tie the score, but it was too little, too late.
The Black Cats will play Middlesbrough in the Championship on Sunday at Riverside Stadium.
