Goals galore & future stars: Palace and Brighton’s Academy thrillers.
As they attempt to secure their spot in the Premier League 2 top 16, which will guarantee their passage to the postseason, Palace welcomes Brighton to the Academy.
Although this is the pair’s first Under-21 match of the season, there has been a lot of action between the two teams lately.
This season, the Under-18s have already played their bitter rivals; in September, they welcomed Brighton for a thrilling six-goal match. After trailing 2-0, Palace rallied to take a 3-2 lead before giving up an equalizer to split the points: Jesse Derry and George King both scored goals.
Palace’s Under-21 team played Brighton twice in the previous season, and in both encounters, 11 goals were scored. The Eagles prevailed in both games, winning at Selhurst Park on the first day behind goals from Malcolm Ebiowei and Jean-Philippe Mateta with a brace. For the visitors, Evan Ferguson, who had not yet made his Premier League debut, scored an incredible volley.
In the rematch on the south coast, Kofi Balmer and a brace from Ademola Ola-Adebomi helped Palace jump out to a three-goal lead before the Seagulls rallied in the second half. David Uzoh’s fourth goal for Palace put the result beyond question.
Vonnte Williams, who won the club’s Goal of the Season title for his brilliant dribble from left-back, scored a solo goal that helped the Eagles win the Premier League Cup at the Under-18 level.
Outside the house, Palace defeated Brighton 5 to 1 thanks to an incredible display of play by Zach Marsh, Junior Dixon, Kaden Rodney, and Asher Agbinone.
