Deal completed: Burnley has a contract with the former…

Millwall Set To Sign Premier League Striker On Loan

Obafemi has found game time under Vincent Kompany difficult this season, and Millwall have now reached an agreement in principle to sign him on loan. The Ireland international is set to have a medical in the coming days to get the deal done.

A hamstring injury has hampered the majority of the player’s campaign so far, and he has struggled to break back into the team since returning from injury, with just two appearances all season. The striker has failed to nail down a starting spot at Turf Moor since joining on loan midway through last season from Swansea City.

Millwall are currently 18th in the Championship table, just eight points above the relegation places. The Lions will be aiming to secure their safety in the division in the second half of the season, and a signing like Obafemi could help that.

The Dublin-born forward has a wealth of experience in the second tier, featuring 63 times for both Burnley and Swansea. During that time, he has scored 17 times as well as contributing a further five assists. He has also played eleven times for his country, scoring twice including a wonder goal against Scotland at the Aviva Stadium.

Millwall’s current top scorer is Scottish striker Kevin Nisbet with just five goals, and it is obviously an area which needs addressing. Obafemi will compete with Nisbet and Tom Bradshaw for a place in the starting eleven.

Joe Edwards’s side host Preston North End on Saturday at The Den, and if all goes well, they will have their new

striker in the squad. A full agreement between the two clubs is now subject to the completion of the medical and the signature of the contract. Obafemi is a top striker when he can stay fit, and if Millwall can keep him that way they have a really good signing on their hands for the remainder of the season. His pace can cause any team danger, and

he has an eye for goal as well as a powerful strike when he does get into those key areas.
