Aidan Hutchinson takes pride in helping erase ‘Same Old Lions stuff’.
ALLEN PARK — Aidan Hutchinson grew up in a non-Diehard Detroit Lions family, but he still understood the suffering this team and its supporters had endured.
About seven miles separated Hutchinson’s high school ball game from the Allen Park, California, home of the squad. And before joining the home-state Lions at the top of the 2022 NFL draft, he excelled at the University of Michigan in nearby Ann Arbor.
In addition, the standout second-year edge defender has taken great satisfaction in ending some significant title droughts in this lovely state.
Michigan won their first conference title in 17 years thanks to Hutchinson. And he went on to assist the Lions in winning both their first playoff victory in over thirty years and their first division title in thirty years. Forget it—this is the first time since the Super Bowl era that the Lions have won multiple playoff games in a single season.
As the team searches for its first road playoff victory since 1957, they have advanced to the NFC title game for the first time in more than 30 years.
Hutchinson stated on Wednesday, “My dad was never a big Lions fan because he’s from Texas.” “Even though I’m not from a large Lions family, you grow up with it whether you’re a fan or not. Growing up in school, all of my buddies were there every Sunday in the fall.
Without a question, there is a lot of tragedy and “Same Old Lions” material around here while you’re growing up, call it what you will. Being on this side of things, I see footage of young children and it’s like watching that generation grow up with the current Lions squad and the Lions teams to come. I grew up with it. Seeing things from two distinct angles and sort of from both sides of the issue is just cool.
