Everton want to sign Ajax ace Carlos Forbs, Burnley and Nottingham Forest have held transfer talks.
The news agency reports that the former Manchester City winger has been told he can quit the Amsterdam club less than six months after joining on their website on January 25.
Before Ajax ruined the deal, Forbs—formerly Carlos Borges—was scheduled to sign with West Ham in the summer. However, things didn’t work out, and he is now free to depart. Burnley and Nottingham Forest have already discussed getting him back to England.
“Hitch Football has learned that Carlos Forbs, a striker for Ajax, has been given permission to leave the team during the January transfer window,” they stated.
With less than a week before the transfer market closes, sources have confirmed to HITC Football that several Premier League clubs are interested in signing the Portuguese international.
“Nottingham Forest and Burnley have both held talks about a deal, and HITC also understands that Brighton & Hove Albion, Everton, and West Ham United are monitoring the 19-year-old’s situation.”
Forbs was a gifted young player for Man City; in the past, talent scout Jacek Kulig called him “simply phenomenal.”
Although his talent, skill, and ability don’t go away quickly or in just six months, Amsterdam’s bad start to the season has made him somewhat of a victim of the situation there.
Given his excellent qualities and the rumors surrounding Arnaut Danjuma’s future—who may be planning to quit his loan agreement early and move to Lyon—Forbs might step in as Danjuma’s immediate replacement.
Given their financial situation and his performance thus far this season, Everton’s best bet for acquiring him would probably be to sign him to a loan agreement. However, even with that, there is no assurance that he would immediately contribute to the team.
With the window closing and clubs searching for answers, it’s definitely one to watch.
