It would be an understatement to suggest that Joel Embiid has recently begun to rise to the challenge of becoming an MVP-caliber big man. Embiid produced another incredible effort against the reigning NBA Champions on Tuesday night, following up his impressive showing against Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets the previous season.
Embiid climbed the Sixers’ scoring ladder when he was having a scoring clinic against the two-time MVP Jokic.
Red Kerr, who had previously held the seventh place ranking on the chart with 11,699 points for the 76ers, was quickly surpassed by Embiid. Embiid continued to rise after assuming the seventh position on the scoreboard with yet another outstanding offensive performance.
scored 41 points against the Nuggets by making 13 of his 22 field goals and 12 of his 15 free throws. It was his second straight game with 40 points or more, and his 18th straight game with 30 points or more.
With Embiid’s aid, the Sixers defeated the Nuggets in a pivotal game to record their third straight win. They finished the season with a record of 26-13 and are still among the best teams in the Eastern Conference.
Personally, Embiid improved his case for MVP even if his several absences throughout the first half of the 2023–2024 NBA season could make him ineligible for the honor.
Embiid will next face Billy Cunningham, who currently holds the sixth spot and has 13,626 points in his 76ers career. Charles Barkley, Julius Erving, Dolph Schayes, Allen Iverson, and Hal Greer round out the top five.
