Breaking News: Geno Smith, seattle seahawks quarterback, announced his departure….

QB Geno Smith of the Seahawks announced his retirement.

After being tackled out of bounds in the second quarter in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Seahawks starting quarterback Geno Smith departed Monday night’s game against the New York Giants with a knee injury.

However, Smith came back to begin the second half as the Seahawks attempted to extend their lead at halftime, 14-3.

On a second-and-11 play at Seattle’s 37, Smith was hurt when Giants defensive lineman D.J. Davidson knocked his ball back into his hands. After Smith grabbed the deflection in the center of the field and started toward the Giants sideline, Isaiah Simmons tackled him as he was about to go out of bounds.

Smith went to the sidelines, limping back to the field for a third-down incompletion, during which Seattle called a timeout with 9:32 remaining in the half.

Following the incompletion and a punt by Seattle, Smith went back to the sidelines. He was checked out and went to the locker room, where he stayed out of the game for the remainder of the first half.

Smith was replaced by backup Drew Lock, who led a seven-play, 75-yard touchdown drive. On third-and-10, Lock completed a 51-yard throw to Noah Fant, setting up Kenneth Walker III’s 1-yard touchdown run, which put Seattle ahead 14-3 at the half.

Lock has not appeared in a game for Seattle since he was acquired in March 2022 as a part of the Russell Wilson deal with Denver before this series.

Smith, who played every snap of the 2022 season and every snap of this year up to his injury, defeated Lock for the starting job that year.

Other than Smith and Lock, Seattle’s quarterback position is empty since Holton Ahlers was just cut from the practice squad.

Reversing course In high school, DeeJay Dallas was recruited with the intention of using him as a quarterback at the University of Miami. The Seahawks have occasionally set him up as a quarterback in wildcat formations.

Then, when the second half got underway, Smith went back to the sidelines and the game.
