But his friends have been concerned about his welfare for months.
“It’s not unusual that he is unheard of for long periods of time when he is off and away on his sailing adventures, as he has no means of offshore electronic communication, let alone an internet connection or even an emergency device,” Larsen’s friend Attila Vedo wrote on Facebook in June.
“However, we think that seven months of no news from him entails us to worry about his wellbeing.”

NT Police said friends were informed in November 2023 that he would be “leaving with the boat in good condition and with five months of supplies”.
A fellow sailor who reported anchoring beside him in Rabaul while waiting for a customs clearance wrote on social media that Larsen seemed “contented” when they met: “Nice chap, very helpful.”
