World Sailing, formerly known as the International Sailing Federation, has chosen Jeddah Yacht Club to host the 2024 Junior Global Sailing Yacht Challenge Championship, organized by the Saudi Sailing Federation, from Nov. 29 to Dec. 2. The Women’s Global Sailing Yacht Challenge Championship will follow from Dec. 5-8.
These events highlight the achievements of the Saudi Sailing Federation and represent key milestones in its efforts to promote sailing within Saudi Arabia.
Quanhai Li, president of World Sailing, expressed excitement about hosting the races at such an outstanding venue. He noted that this marks the first event held by the International Sailing Federation in Saudi Arabia and underscores the Kingdom’s dedication to developing a variety of sports while boosting its global presence. Li also mentioned that sailing is one of the fastest-growing sports worldwide, and the event presents a fantastic opportunity to promote and expand sailing in the region.
Samia Baghdadi, CEO of the Saudi Sailing Federation, described the event as a historic moment for sailors and teams globally. She emphasized the importance of showcasing Jeddah’s potential as a dynamic center for marine sports and the federation’s efforts to promote sailing. Hosting these prestigious championships at the Jeddah Yacht Club, Baghdadi said, will have a major impact on the growth of the sport in Saudi Arabia. She expressed excitement about welcoming all participating teams to this remarkable event.
David Graham, CEO of World Sailing, called the selection of Jeddah Yacht Club to host both the Junior and Women’s Global Sailing Yacht Challenge Championships a significant step in advancing the sport worldwide. He highlighted the potential of the Red Sea region to develop programs benefiting individuals across the Gulf, Africa, and beyond, and expressed hope that the event will inspire sailing enthusiasts.
