A father whose three children were strangled in their Massachusetts home and later died is running the Boston Marathon in their honor, as well as raising funds for Boston Children’s Hospital.
Patrick Clancy said he is taking part in Monday’s annual event forCora, Dawson, and Callan, who were killed in 2023.
In the short time they were here, my kids brought me so much joy and couldn’t have made their dad prouder,” Clancy recently wrote in a fundraising blog on the Boston Children’s Hospital website. “It goes without saying that losing them has been devastating and it’s a heartbreak that I’ll live with forever, but I’ve committed myself to honoring their memory by trying to bring positive change. In many ways, I’m just trying to be more like them. Their passion in life was infectious.”
Clancy is a member of the Mile for Miracles team, which is raising funds for the hospital. His blog noted that he’s raised more than $72,000 as of Monday morning.
“I wish words could adequately express my thanks for your support and how uplifting it is,” he wrote.
Authorities previously said Cora, 5, and Dawson, 3, were strangled in their homein Duxbury on Jan. 24, 2024. They were rushed toto Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Plymouth, where they were pronounced dead. Callan, who was 7 months old, was flown to Boston Children’s Hospital, where he later died.
Callan spent his last moments in my arms before he passed at Boston Children’s Hospital,” Clancy wrote. “Although I wished so badly for a different outcome, I was overwhelmed by the compassion and professionalism of the doctors and nurses in the ICU. They gave me a little more time with my boy and I’ll forever be grateful for that. I’m incredibly honored to have the privilege of joining their team for the 2024 Boston Marathon and I’ll be running in Cora, Dawson, and Callan’s memory.”
The children were allegedly killed by their mother, Lindsay Clancy, who authorities said was having a mental health crisis. Investigators said she also tried to kill herself.
In September, she was indicted by a grand jury on murder and strangulation charges. She continues to undergo treatment, as she is paralyzed from the waist down after jumping out of a second floor window of her home the night of the murders.
The community held a candlelight vigil in honor of the family, especially the children.
“Cora always loved interacting and playing little ones, especially after her little brothers were born,” Clancy wrote. “She loved babies partly because she thought they were cute, but she also just loved taking care of them. She would always say that one day she wanted to be a ‘doctor and a mama.'”
