Former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden has rejoined the NFL as an analyst, now under a multi-year deal with Barstool Sports. NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the news, and Barstool Sports celebrated by sharing a video featuring Gruden’s debut. In the clip, Gruden enters a classroom to correct a teacher’s attempt at explaining an NFL play, immediately energizing the room. Gruden has recently appeared on several Barstool programs, including *Pardon My Take*. Earlier in the offseason, he also acted as a consultant for the Kansas City Chiefs during practice, though he was not hired for an official coaching role.
Gruden’s new role at Barstool is anticipated to involve analysis, aligning with his experience covering the NFL on *Monday Night Football* from 2009 to 2017. Prior to becoming an analyst, Gruden served as head coach for the then-Oakland Raiders from 1998 to 2001, later leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2002 to 2008. He returned to the Raiders in 2018 but resigned in 2021 after an email scandal involving offensive language surfaced during an investigation into the Washington Commanders. Following his departure, he consulted briefly for the New Orleans Saints in 2023 but did not take on a coaching role.
Gruden’s new position at Barstool is likely to include both analyst work and appearances in promotional content, as seen in the announcement video. Regardless, Gruden is back to discussing football, embracing a familiar role.
