Jose Riveiro, the head coach of the Orlando Pirates, has announced his resignation.

Jose Riveiro has been named the new head coach of the Orlando Pirates, effective immediately. The team confirmed the news on Saturday.

Both Sergio Almenara and Mandla Ncikazi, the lone survivor of Josef Zinnbauer’s former administration, would provide support to the 46-year-old.

Spaniard Riveiro said on the team’s official website, “First of all, I would like to convey a hello to all the supporters of the Orlando Pirates.”

“I am happy to have become a member of the club. The Pirates project is fascinating, and I’m excited to see where it goes.

“It is an honor for my coworkers and me to be tasked with leading such an organization and striving for the greatest standards.”

“My support staff and I are excited to arrive and join the task force and the group of players to start working right away,” Riveiro continued.

“Together, we’re going to make history and create a team in which we can all take pride.”

Tyron Damons has been named the new goalie coach by the Buccaneers, while Miguel Bellver Esteve has been confirmed as the team’s fitness trainer.

After Zinnbauer resigned as head coach in December 2020, citing family reasons, and left to return to his home country of Germany, Riveiro took over.

Since then, Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids, the Buccaneers’ assistant coaches, have been tasked with leading the group.

David’s contract expires at the end of June, and the Pirates decided not to extend it, which has led to rumors that the Soweto giants would eventually announce a new mentor.

According to the Pirates, Riveiro is a “contemporary, innovative coach with dynamic, attacking football as his philosophy.” The Buccaneers are anticipated to begin their 2022–2023 preseason campaign the following week when Riveiro visits the nation.

During his final season as head coach, Riveiro led FC Turku to a fourth-place finish in the 2021 campaign while he was there in Finland.
