Following the Wolverines’ 45-23 victory over the Buckeyes, which marked the team’s second consecutive victory, Day came under heavy fire from both fans and media figures.
Before the teams faced off again in 2023, everyone seemed to have an explanation for why the team lost and what needed to be altered. Day, though, appears to have his own theory about what went wrong in November 2022.
“I believe the mistake I most likely made was believing that we would win this game. Now let’s move. “Let us take them down,” Day declared. “Your goal should be to win every play and every possession when you’re up against a team or player that is on par with you. How do you go about doing that? Excellent focus and technique. You eventually prevail in the game.
Day noted that, looking back, the approach the Scarlet and Gray should have taken against the top-seeded Georgia Bulldogs in the 2023 Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl should have been the same as the one they used against Michigan.
Day claimed his team gave it their all on the field and approached the game one play at a time, despite the fact that Ohio State ultimately lost that game to the Bulldogs in heartbreaking fashion, 42-41.
