Ohio State’s Safeties Coach, Perry Eliano, will not be part of the coaching staff for the upcoming season.
Following the season’s disastrous Cotton Bowl loss to the Missouri Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day revealed he will be making changes to his coaching staff. With the official departure of safeties coach Perry Eliano, these adjustments have officially begun. The program has decided not to renew Eliano’s contract, who was in the final year of a two-year agreement.
In a statement, the Ohio State Athletic Department confirmed that assistant coach Perry Eliano has been informed by head football coach Ryan Day that he would not be retained on the staff for the 2024 football season. Eliano, who oversaw the safeties for the team, was nearing the end of his first two-year deal with Ohio State. The department is looking for his replacement right now.
Eliano joined the Ohio State University football team in 2022 after serving as the Cincinnati Bearcats’ accomplished cornerbacks coach. His team was incredibly successful while he was there; in 2021, they were ranked third in the country for interceptions and second nationally for pass defense. He also had a major influence on Sauce Garnder and Coby Bryant, who are now NFL players, in their quest for All-American status.
Eliano made a significant contribution to Ohio State’s development in his first season there in 2022, helping the team’s pass defense go from the 96th to the 26th spot in the nation.
The development continued in 2023, when the Buckeyes made a huge stride to take the top rank in the country for pass defense after allowing only 145.9 yards per game all season.
