Ryan Day, the Ohio State coach, might be on the “Hot Seat” in 2024.
Senior writer Adam Rittenberg of the well-known sports media outlet released his list of eight coaches he believed should be fired from their positions in the event that the 2024 campaign is a flop. Buckeye Helmsman was one of the names.
“Hot seat” and “keeping an eye on” were the two categories into which Rittenberg divided his list. Day was positioned in the latter part, implying that he was not facing termination right away.
Rittenberg declared, “I’m not going to put a coach with a 56-8 overall record solidly on the hot seat.” “However, with three consecutive defeats to Michigan, a lack of national titles, the appointment of Ross Bjork as the new athletic director, and Ohio State’s aggressive hiring strategy this winter, Day is under real pressure to win big in 2024.”
Rittenberg continued by saying that this season may go in a number of directions and that the outcomes would dictate how or where Day spends the following season.
Rittenberg remarked, “The possibilities are amazing. What if he defeats Michigan but falls short in the CFP?” What happens if Michigan wins and he has a successful CFP run? Even with all of his obvious successes with the Buckeyes, it would be tough for Day to bounce back from a fourth straight loss against the Wolverines.
Rittenberg’s list has more Big Ten Conference coaches than Day. Chip Kelly of UCLA is likewise categorized as someone to “keep an eye on” with Day.
