He pursued his education at the University of New Hampshire. Day played for former offensive coordinator Chip Kelly at UNH, where he established four career records, including touchdowns and completions.

He served as Temple’s offensive coordinator in 2012 and Boston College’s offensive coordinator from 2013 to 2014. He was brought on as the quarterbacks coach of the Philadelphia Eagles on January 22, 2015.

Subsequently, in 2016, Day was hired by his mentor, Chip Kelly, in the same role after Kelly was ousted as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. Kelly later became the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.

Day took over as Ohio State’s interim head coach on August 1, 2018, following head coach Urban Meyer’s administrative absence due to revelations that Meyer was aware of Zach Smith’s then-fired wife’s allegations of domestic abuse.

In his first season as the head coach of the Buckeyes, he is credited with leading the team to a perfect 12-0 regular-season record. This was the Buckeyes’ first perfect regular season since 2013, and it occurred in the year 2019.

The Buckeyes defeated Penn State on November 23 to capture the division and earn a spot in the Big Ten Championship, which they won 34-21 over Wisconsin, despite the fact that the 2019 Cleveland.com preseason poll had them ranked second in the Big Ten East Division.

Day led Ohio State to a nine-game winning streak behind Heisman contender CJ Stroud after the team was stunned by Oregon early in the season. Ohio State overcame Michigan State, ranked fifth, and Penn State, ranked twenty-first at the time.

In the AP and coaches’ polls, the Buckeyes started the 2022 season ranked second in the country. This was Day’s fourth full season as head coach.

Ohio State began 8-0 with quarterback CJ Stroud back. The team won by double digits over Notre Dame at home and the 13th-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions away.
