Ohio State Has Reportedly Fired Head Coach Ryan Day.

Amidst yet another heartbreaking piece of bad news, Ohio State’s head men’s basketball coach Chris Holtmann has apparently been sacked. The suspension was imposed on the athlete because of Eason.

On Wednesday, just hours after the Buckeyes suffered their ninth loss in the previous 11 games—a 62-54 setback over Wisconsin—the revelation was revealed by Field of 68 source Jeff Goodman.

“Holtmann went to the NCAA tourney in each of his first 4 years with the Buckeyes and was set to go the year the tourney was canceled,” Goodman wrote on Twitter. “Spent three years at Butler and attended the Sweet Sixteen.” After the Buckeyes’ disastrous performance in the previous two years, Gene Smith made the decision to act now.”

After replacing Thad Matta in 2017–18, Holtmann guided the Buckeyes to a 25–9 record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament’s second round right away. Before COVID-19 struck, Ohio State was scheduled to resume dancing in 2020. He then made another appearance in the second round in 2019.

The Buckeyes made it to the Big Ten championship game and were seeded second in the NCAA Tournament in the 2020–21 season, however they were beaten in the first round by Oral Roberts, ranked fifteenth. Ohio State finished 16-19 in the previous season, which increased pressure on Holtmann going into this year after the team advanced to the second round in 2022.
