Nuno EspĂrito Santo has consented to take over as manager of Nottingham Forest, and his appointment is anticipated to be officially confirmed on Wednesday. After just one victory in 13 games, the team fired Steve Cooper and hired Nuno, a former head coach of Wolves and Tottenham. With the squad now sitting 17th in the Premier League, five points above the relegation zone.
Nuno is unemployed as a result of his dismissal from Al-Ittihad, a Saudi Arabian club, early in November, just months after he won the championship there. November 2021 saw the conclusion of his unfortunate 17-game stint at Tottenham, which was his most recent Premier League position. Prior to that, Nuno, a customer of Jorge Mendes’ agency, guided Wolves into the top division and maintained them there for three seasons. At the City Ground, the Portuguese player is about to ink a two-and-a-half-year contract.
After six games, five losses, and one tie, Forest has made the decision to bench Cooper. This month, he weathered a humiliating 5-0 loss at Fulham and a 1-1 draw at Wolves, but following last Friday’s 2-0 home loss to Tottenham, Forest has taken action. The team’s lone victory since early September came on November 5 at home against Aston Villa.
Owner Evangelos Marinakis stated, “Everyone at Nottingham Forest would like to thank Steve for his superb contribution to our football club.” “There is no doubt that his success in leading Forest back to the Premier League will go down in club history as a legendary moment.
We express our gratitude to Steve for his unwavering devotion and hard work during his tenure with us, along with the remarkable bonds he established with both the city of Nottingham and our supporters. Steve will always be welcomed at the City Ground and will always be a friend of the club. We hope he succeeds in all of his future endeavors.
Oliver Glasner, the former manager of Eintracht Frankfurt, was also in talks with Forest and indicated a desire to take the position, but Marinakis thought differently than Glasner. Though conversations with the former Wolves manager did not advance, Julen Lopetegui was on Forest’s radar.
