The Tennessee Titans’ season took a turn for the worse on Monday. Following yet another defeat, this time to the Minnesota Vikings, the team received more devastating injury news.
Linebacker Jack Gibbens, one of the few bright spots in this tough season, sustained a lower leg injury on Sunday that will sideline him for the remainder of the year, as reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. “Titans linebacker Jack Gibbens is undergoing surgery today to repair a lower leg injury suffered Sunday, per source,” Fowler shared on X, formerly known as Twitter. “He faces a four-month recovery.”
Gibbens has been a solid contributor during his three NFL seasons with the Titans, including this one. The Titans defense has exceeded expectations given the team’s overall performance, and Gibbens has been a key part of that. He currently ranks as the Titans’ fourth-leading tackler with 44 stops, along with two tackles for loss.
With Gibbens out for the season, the Titans’ already uphill battle to secure victories becomes even more daunting. The team’s linebacker options are limited, especially with Kenneth Murray’s struggles and the midseason trade of Ernest Jones IV. After falling to 2-8 with another loss on Sunday, the Titans’ playoff hopes are all but dashed. They’ve now lost two consecutive games and five of their last six as they attempt to identify players they can build around for the future.
The pressing question now is whether Will Levis has demonstrated enough to be the starting quarterback in 2025. After another inconsistent performance, it remains unclear if Levis will prove himself over the rest of the season. Levis has underperformed for much of the year, but with a weaker draft class ahead, the Titans may not have many other viable options at quarterback, which could leave Levis as the likely starter for 2025.
