Giants Reunite With Wide Receiver Ahead of Possible Golden Tate Suspension
With one of their best players facing a possible suspension, the New York Giants have formally reconnected with star wideout Alex Bachman, providing the team with a backup wideout.
On Monday, the former Wake Forest Demon Deacon signed a contract to join the New York practice squad. He had visited the Giants on Friday before, when he had gone through the COVID-19 testing procedure and the team’s re-entry process.
During training, Bachman developed a name for himself as quarterback Daniel Jones’ dependable slot receiver. Many fans, who had grown especially fond of Bachman during the summer, were shocked when he did not make Big Blue’s original 53-man roster. Eventually, he returned to the New York practice squad, but two weeks ago, he was abruptly dismissed to make room for fellow wide receiver Derrick Dillon.
Bachman may very possibly end up on the Giants’ active roster as well as in their strategy. This season, the Giants offense has been wobbly for the most part and is in dire need of playmakers. Even though Bachman might not be the magic bullet for their offensive problems, he might still be a better option than guys like Damion Ratley and C.J. Board.
In addition, there is an unanswered question concerning two of New York’s top three targets. Due to his postgame theatrics from Sunday, Golden Tate may be taken out of the lineup while Sterling Shepard is still out with a turf toe.
Losing even one of their most successful players would be a devastating blow to the NFL’s lowest-ranked overall offense. That may very well be the case for the Giants, though, as the NFL is allegedly looking into Golden Tate and Los Angeles Rams player Jalen Ramsey’s altercation after the game.
Nevertheless, as the New York Post pointed out, the league could have trouble determining the cause of the brawl because of a dearth of viewers and a restricted number of camera angles:
The absence of video to show how the Tate-Ramsey rivalry intensified as soon as the last whistle blew may make the probe more difficult. There was simply the aftermath of the players being split off on Fox; no spectators were present to record it with iPhone cameras and post it to social media. Fox did not have any big Tate-New York footage available.
It doesn’t seem like New York will self-induce any penalty on their seasoned receiver at this time if the NFL doesn’t cut Tate from the Giants. Head coach Joe Judge did, however, leave things up for more analysis.
