Patriots save $14 million in cap space by cutting a cornerback.
The Patriots have more than $100 million available to them going into free agency, according to Pats Cap. Pats Cap posted on Twitter:
Following the departure of J.C. Jackson, my new salary cap space number for the Patriots is $103,333,802, an increase of $13.46 million.
According to Over The Cap, it is the squad with the most cap space available.
Jackson became a standout cornerback in 2018 after being an undrafted free agency. He collected 25 interceptions in his first four seasons with the New England Patriots. With the Patriots, he was selected for one Pro Bowl and took home a Super Bowl victory.
Following the 2021 season, he signed a free-agent contract for $82.5 million with the Los Angeles Chargers. After suffering an injury in 2022, he had disagreements with players and coaches the previous season before returning to the Patriots in exchange for late-round draft selections.
Jackson got off to an early start and looked well, but he missed the Patriots’ trip to Germany because of reports that he had missed a meeting, which raised the possibility that he might be released, though that did not come to b Citing a mental health concern, his agent put him on the reserve/non-football illness list at the end of the season. Jackson is the third 2023 Patriot to be released, along with Adrian Phillips and Lawrence Guy.
