A man was shot and killed a few blocks from Hard Rock Stadium as thousands of fans were heading home from Sunday night’s Miami Dolphins loss less than an hour after the game ended, Miami Gardens police said.
The man and some friends were walking — likely toward a parked car — not far from a small strip mall on Northwest 27th Avenue at 194th Street, when at least one of them got into an argument with another man who was in a car, police said. The group had attended the game at the Miami Gardens stadium.
Around 11:55 p.m., the man got out of a car and shot the man he was arguing with, police said. The shooter then got back into the vehicle and sped off.
Miami-Dade cops assigned to the Dolphins game and paramedics tried but failed to save the man’s life., Miami Gardens police said. According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, no one was taken to the hospital.
The shooter hasn’t been caught, though police were scanning nearby surveillance video and talking to witnesses Monday morning. A couple of blocks away are the Miami Gardens Police Department and the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Professional Compliance Bureau.
A law enforcement source told the Miami Herald that the man killed was Canadian, though no other details were available. It was not known whether he lived in the area or was in town on vacation.
The identity of the man killed has not been released by authorities.
“Preliminary investigation revealed the victim and friends were walking through the traffic and had a verbal argument with the subject,” Miami Gardens police said Monday in a statement. “The subject exited the vehicle and fired several rounds.”
It was not immediately clear what they were arguing about.
The Dolphins game against the Buffalo Bills, a nationally televised pivotal contest to secure the AFC East title, wrapped up around 11:15 p.m.
