FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — The snow didn’t stop runners from participating in the 20th Run to Read Half Marathon on Saturday.

Over 100 runners registered for the race, which acts as one of the biggest fundraisers for the year for the Literacy Volunteers of Marion County. The Literacy Volunteers help tutor any adult or child who wants to learn to read or write or a bit of math. They say that illiteracy is a pressing problem Arion County with the illiteracy rate reaching 19%.

Runners came out in support of the cause, running the 13.1 miles up and down the rail trail at Prickett’s Fort, braving the cold and snow. Each runner got a wooden medallion for finishing the race, a very well deserved prize.
