The Rams’ 30-23 Week 2 loss to the 49ers on Sunday featured Cam Akers as an inactive player, and Fox Sports reports that the former starting running back for Los Angeles is up for trade.

Despite Akers’ health, the Rams have already reached out to other teams in an attempt to trade him, according to Jay Glazer. Akers did not play on Sunday. Akers gave a response to the X (formerly Twitter) story.

The Athletic reported on Monday that general manager Les Snead has spoken with a couple clubs regarding Akers and that “that’s the route” the organization is moving in. Head coach Sean McVay essentially verified Glazer’s claim by giving reporters similar information. Following Sunday’s San Francisco defeat, McVay stated that the Akers’ choice to be inactive was a “coaches decision.”

According to NFL.com, McVay stated, “I felt like that was best for our football team.” “I made that choice because I felt that Kyren [Williams] provided us with the best potential and that was what Royce (Freeman) and Ronnie (Rivers) had done.”

Akers, a former second-round selection, recovered from an Achilles injury suffered over the summer to help the Rams win the Super Bowl in his second season. Even though he requested a trade throughout the first half of the season, he still managed to carry for a career-high 786 yards and seven touchdowns in 2018. After 22 carries for just 29 yards and a score in the Rams’ Week 1 defeat to the Seahawks, Akers was cut down.

“I have a great deal of respect for Cam Akers, but I thought it was the right call for our football team tonight, in this game, and going forward,” McVay continued.

Against the 49ers in Week 2, Williams, a second-year back, started in Akers’ stead for the Rams. In addition to catching six catches for 48 yards and a score, he ran for 52 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Last week, the Cam Akers had 52 yards and two touchdowns on 15 attempts, leading the Rams.
