Los Angeles Rams cornerback Derion Kendrick was hauled into custody early on Monday morning, following his team’s victory over the Arizona Cardinals at SoFi Stadium, according to TMZ Sports.
According to TMZ, police found a hidden pistol in 23-year-old Kendrick’s car when they pulled him up for a traffic offense. Kendrick was brought into custody at 2:14 a.m. PT (5:14 a.m. ET), according to jail records, and he remained there as of 2:30 p.m.
The Rams have not yet responded to TMZ’s request for comment. Furthermore, as of Monday night, no more information on the arrest was available.
Off the field, Kendrick has a history of issues. In February 2021, he was dismissed from the Clemson football program due to many disciplinary infractions. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney even spoke about the subject after the Tigers defeated Pittsburgh in November 2020.
“We just didn’t play him today,” Swinney said, as reported by 247Sports. Some people think he might be in the doghouse. I like to say that he’s in the love shack. A small amount of self-control, please. I treasure DK. He’s actually one of my favas. Just put him in the love shack this weekend.
After being dismissed from Clemson, Kendrick participated in his last collegiate season at Georgia in 2021, helping the Bulldogs capture their first of two straight national titles.
Kendrick was selected by the Rams in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He made six starts in his rookie campaign. But in the aftermath of major defensive line changes this offseason, the Rams have mainly depended on Kendrick and other young defensive backs like cornerback Cobie Durant and safety Russ Yeast to step up. This season, Kendrick has started all of the Rams’ games and has played at least 89 percent of the snaps.
Throughout his time with the Rams, Kendrick has accumulated 68 total tackles and seven passes defensed.
