A former Liverpool player could be in line to be appointed Borussia Dortmund’s new manager after Eden Terzic’s surprise resignation.
Dortmund confirmed Terzic’s had left the club on Thursday, just over a week on from leading the Bundesliga side in the Champions League final against Real Madrid. Los Blanco’s won 2-0 at Wembley to deny their opponents a second European crown, having first won the competition in 1997.
Terzic’s had been in charge of Dortmund since 2021, having originally been appointed as interim coach. He won the DFB-Pokal that same season, but has gone without a trophy since and led the club to a disappointing fifth-place finish in the 2023/24 campaign.
“After the game at Wembley, I asked for a meeting with the club’s senior management team, because after 10 years at BVB – including five on the coaching staff and two and a half as head coach – I feel that the club’s new era should begin with a new man on the touchline,” Terzic’s said in a club statement.
“Everyone close to me knows that this has been a very difficult decision for me to take over the last few weeks, but after intensive discussions my fundamental feeling has not changed.”
The search starts for Terzic’s replacement, and a familiar name to Liverpool fans could well be in the frame. Sport Bild reports that Nuri Shahin could be in line to step into the Dortmund hot seat.
