The season-long loan of Ian Poveda, a winger for Leeds United, to Sheffield Wednesday is now complete.
Because of his summer contract expiration, it implies the attacker has probably played his final game for the team. Poveda has only made ten appearances this season and hasn’t begun a championship game since August.
The 23-year-old made 17 appearances for Leeds that season after making an impression at Manchester City’s academy before signing a free agent contract at Elland Road in January 2020. During the 2021–2022 season, he was on loan to Blackburn, where he scored just once in 10 games.
The forward was granted permission to spend another season abroad, this time with Blackpool, where he finished with three goals and two assists in 26 games. But Daniel Farke has only given him 114 league minutes this season at Leeds, and only three of those have come since November.
“Leeds United can confirm Ian Poveda has joined fellow Sky Bet Championship side Sheffield Wednesday on loan until the end of the season,” the statement said, confirming the Colombian international’s departure.
“He now relocates to Hillsborough, where Wednesday is making a strong effort to climb out of the Championship table’s relegation spots thanks to their recent improvement under new manager Danny Rohl. The entire Leeds United team wishes Ian the absolute best of luck while he’s at Hillsborough.”
Poveda is the sixth player to leave Leeds this month, despite the Whites’ 30-game winning streak without a goal.
On loan, Darko Gyabi and Luke Ayling went to Middlesbrough and Plymouth, respectively, while Djed Spence returned to Tottenham. Leo Fhur Hjelde, meanwhile, has made a permanent move to Sunderland.
