The Poland international has become a mainstay under manager Marcelo Bielsa, having looked to be on his way out of the club under former bosses Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom.

After an uncertain start at the club, Klich has become a firm fan Favorite and has made 75 appearances for Leeds, scoring 12 goals.

Following his arrival from FC Twente in the summer of 2017 – as director of football Victor Orta’s first signing – Klich made just nine appearances for the Whites before returning to the Netherlands on loan to FC Utrecht in the following January.

He returned to Leeds at the end of that season and his fortunes then changed following the appointment of Bielsa in June 2018.

He has since started every league match under the Argentine boss.

His good form for the Elland Road outfit also saw him recalled to the Poland squad for the first time in four years and he now has 22 caps for his county.

Ahead of Saturday’s Championship clash against Blackburn, director of football Orta said: “Mateusz has gone on to become a really important player for us and I’m delighted that he’s committed to spend the best years of his career with Leeds United.

“Mateusz was my first signing at Leeds and a really important one.

“The first season was character building for him – he went away on loan, worked hard and came back to show anyone who had doubted him that he is a top player and that is something I admire.

“Even after Marcelo arrived, he had a lot to do to change some people opinions and it took an injury to Adam Forshaw in pre-season last year for Mateusz to get his opportunity and he took it amazingly.”
