Titans shake up the roster, releasing hard-hitting safety! What’s next for Tennessee’s defense?

It’s almost hard to believe, but Mike Edwards’ stay in Tennessee has ended even faster than his brief stint in Buffalo. Just a week after joining the Titans following his release from the Bills, Edwards has been let go once again, Titans senior writer Jim Wyatt reports.

Edwards started the season with the Bills, but he found himself buried on the depth chart behind Taylor Rapp, Damar Hamlin, and rookie Cole Bishop. Buffalo explored trade options for the 28-year-old before the deadline, but with no suitors, they opted to release him. Edwards then signed a one-year, $2.8 million deal with Buffalo during the offseason, but he saw minimal action—only seven snaps across three games in nine weeks. After requesting his release, he quickly found a new opportunity with the Titans, possibly as a replacement for injured starter Quandre Diggs.

However, the Titans already had two young safeties on the roster: third-year player Mike Brown and undrafted rookie Julius Wood. While Brown was expected to step up, Edwards appeared to be in line for a significant role after familiarizing himself with the defense. Yet, despite the initial anticipation, Edwards was inactive last week, and today’s release leaves him without a single snap in a Titans uniform. The reasons behind his sudden departure remain unclear, but Edwards is likely seeking more stability at his next stop.
