Andy Reid reaffirms that in 2024 he will rejoin the Chiefs.
Las Vegas: When asked if Chiefs head coach Andy Reid will return as the team’s head coach for the 2024 season, he was succinct, sweet, and straight to the point on Monday morning—even after joking last month that he’s elderly but not old enough to retire.
After his team’s thrilling 25-22 victory over San Francisco on Sunday’s Super Bowl LVIII, which gave the coach and his squad their third championship in five seasons, Reid remarked in the open.
Reid clarified that he hasn’t even begun to think about retiring yet.
Reidd said, “You know, I honestly haven’t even thought about it.” However, people question me about it. The game and everything that happened there still kind of amaze me. I haven’t really given why, what, or anything else much consideration.
So why is it that people are always asking Reid about his future? The narrative is lengthy and involves a football blogger, Bill Belichick, Pete Carroll, unclarity, and a prank that went wrong.
When it came to how long he intended to coach, Reid was pressed during media sessions during the week before Super Bowl LVII in Phoenix in February of last year. By Saturday, word of the rumor had taken over Phoenix like wildfire. Reid, who was 64 at the time, was ready to end his career as a head coach with his second ring in hand and begin rehearsing his Hall of Fame acceptance speech should the Chiefs defeat the Philadelphia Eagles.
Other than the fact that it was an interesting narrative, there was no genuine foundation for the conjecture. The adored head coach, who embodies a fatherly figure, wins his second Super Bowl and leaves town victorious. That’s the perfect conclusion for head coaches in the NFL. The screenplay is ideal for the Disney adaptation of Reid’s biography.
After hearing the story, reputable NFL reporter Jay Glazer of Fox Sports sifted through the chatter and contacted Reid to inquire about the scuttlebutt.
“Jay, you’re like the sixtyth person who has asked me that,” I said. “Maybe I should take a peek in the mirror,” I uttered. In jest, I stated,” Reid said during a training camp briefing with the media. “Then, all of a sudden, it emerged.”
The prank did, in fact, backfire. Following the Chiefs’ 38-35 victory over the Eagles, Reid was once again questioned about his future as Kansas City’s head coach.
Reid put an end to the conversation over the triumph by saying, “If they’ll have me, I’ll remain around,” following the victory.
