Orlando Pirates midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch was sentenced to five years in jail and suspended in court proceedings involving his assault.
For beating his ex-girlfriend, Orlando Pirates attacker Thembinkosi Lorch received a fine and a five-year prison sentence that is suspended.
Lorch has been in and out of court since his ex-girlfriend Fundiswa Nokuphiwa Mathithibala filed an assault complaint against him back in September 2020.
The Pirates attacker was found guilty after the prosecution proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the player had committed a crime.
After being found guilty of the crime, the Pirates promised not to disrupt the legal process while maintaining that the player was receiving therapy for his issues with anger management.
According to State Prosecutor Michele Hart, the sentence was suspended in September 2023 due to personal circumstances.
According to the Sunday World, Lorch will serve a five-year suspended jail sentence and pay a R100,000 fine. The money collected will be used to support People Opposing Women Abuse, an organization that fights gender-based violence.
Lorch has committed to paying the full sum in five equal monthly installments after receiving an R50,000 down payment.
While serving the five-year suspended sentence, the Bucs’ star player shouldn’t be judged guilty of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Since his injuries healed, Lorch has developed into an essential element of coach Jose Riveiro’s team in every match.
Lorch is going to need to stay focused if he wants to help the Sea Robbers win the Nedbank Cup and go back to their previous level of consistency in the Premier Soccer League.
