WOLCOTT, Conn. (WTNH) — The Wolcott Volunteer Fire Department recovered the body of David Bourassa, who went under the Scoville Reservoir after his kayak overturned on Wednesday.

Emergency crews have been working tirelessly since Wednesday to locate Bourassa, and his body was retrieved this morning at 7:00.

According to officials, around 6:21 p.m. Wednesday night, initial reports say Bourassa’s kayak was found in the Scoville Reservoir.

On Thursday, Wolcott police identified David and described him as a 5 feet and 10 inches male weighing 195 pounds, and having grey hair and blue eyes.

Along with the Wolcott Volunteer Fire Department Water rescue team, officers located the unoccupied kayak and the Region 5 Dive Team, a search dog, and a drone were called in for help.

They continued their search all day Thursday, also employing sonar and underwater cameras.

“Although the search has been unsuccessful so far, it has been a tremendous display of dedication and professionalism by all companies and personnel. Our hearts are with the family and friends impacted by this incident,” representatives with the Morris Fire Company said in a Facebook post Thursday evening.

After Bourassa’s body was found, the Wolcott Police Department said in a Facebook post Sunday morning, “This is a sad ending, and our hearts go out the Bourassa family. Thank you to all the first responders who assisted in this effort.”

Bourassa was transported to the Medical Examiner’s office in Farmington, where his manner of death was ruled drowning. No foul play is suspected.
